The national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,
yesterday, charged the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
to join hands with the President Muhammadu Buhari to re-fix the nation.
The National Secretary of the APC, Mai Buni, in a statement to react
to PDP’s claim that the newly sworn-in cabinet of President Muhammadu
Buhari “does not inspire confidence,” urged the PDP to focus its
energy and attention on rebranding itself after suffering defeat and not
distracting it (APC) from governing Nigeria.
He said the PDP should “face its rebranding pursuit instead of running down a performing government”.
Buni, in his first statement after the exit of APC’s vociferous
spokesman, Lai Mohammed, who had just resumed his official duty as
Nigeria’s new Minister of Information, said the argument of the PDP was
“warped and a product of defeat hangover,” adding that ”some ministers
appointed under the government of the PDP, were miscreants thugs and
mistresses.
Mr. Buni said the APC was not a party that would assign portfolios
to “miscreants, thugs and mistresses as (it was) rampant during the
misrule period of PDP”.
He said the leadership of the APC was very satisfied with the cabinet
put in place by Mr. Buhari and urged Nigerians to support them to
deliver.
“We endorse all the portfolios, we have absolute faith in the new
ministers and we know that the final hour of redemption is here,” he
said.
The National Secretary said the choice of the ministers and their
clearance without any reservations by the Senate attested to the
leadership ingenuity of the president, saying all the cabinet members
were “tested and trusted”.
“The meticulous assigning of portfolios on Wednesday was also a
signal to Nigerians that their electoral investment in our great party
and President Buhari was not a waste.
The party noted that the president’s management of the portfolios has
strengthened the nation’s unity, promoted excellence, provided hope for
Nigeria’s rebirth and prepared the nation for the future.
“The journey to economic recovery, meaningful democracy, and moral revolution in our great country has started.
“For the umpteenth time, APC assures Nigerians of its desire to take them to the Promised Land.
“The APC government will not fail the nation, Buhari will keep his
words and salvage Nigeria for the benefit of all,” the statement said.
It also said the unprecedented speed in assumption of duty by the
ministers, hours after oath-taking, underscored the determination of the
APC administration to offer quality and faster service to the nation.
The party also appealed to the ministers to abide by their oath of office, render selfless service and live up to expectations.
The APC also urged PDP to focus its energy and attention on
rebranding itself after suffering defeat and not distracting it (APC)
from governing Nigeria.
He said the PDP should “face its rebranding pursuit instead of running down a performing government”.
“We implore Nigerians, including the increasingly impatient
opposition parties, to give the cabinet a breathing space and support it
to deliver the dividends of democracy,” APC said.
The governing party said the task of rebuilding Nigeria was a responsibility of every citizen.
It called on the opposition to join hands with the president to re-fix the nation.
“President Buhari has what it takes to lead. He is imbued with vision
to redirect Nigeria to prosperity but he needs the cooperation of all
citizens and groups,” said the party.
