LAGOS:Gov. Ambode moves to end Lekki trade zone dispute

In a bid to end Lekki trade zone dispute, the Lagos state government has inaugurated five different resettlement committees to look into the matter.

According to Punch, the government’s move is aimed at finding a lasting solution to the dispute and resettling residents who have been displaced as a result of the project.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Rotimi Ogunleye, said “The move was meant to foster a cordial relationship between the communities and the government.”
Adding that “The committees will also ensure a hitch-free delivery of the LFZ project as a vehicle for industrial development in the state.”
The committees inaugurated by the state government are; the Abomiti Zone, Lekki Coastal Zone, Yegunda Zone, Lekki-Epe Zone and Abejoye Zone.
You will recall that the Managing Director of the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) Ltd, Tajudeen Disu was reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen in Okunraiye community near Ibeju-Lekki today, October 12, 2015.
His death occurred during a clash between mobile police officers and villagers who accused the state government of trying to forcefully takeover their land on behalf of billionaire, Aliko Dangote and the LFTZ, according to Sahara Reporters.
